"Walking Gnome"


Material:

  • knitting yarn in 2 colours
  • wool in skin colour
  • knitting needles 4½
  • wool (un spun) for filling

Body: front

the feet: knit 6 stitches in colour 1 and 6 needles ribs. Knit the 2nd foot and then knit over 12 stitches another 9 ribs.Finish off the edges.(after knitting the feet proceed with the 2nd colour)

Body: back

feet as described above. After 5 ribs in colour 2 you finish off the edges of the 10 stitches in the middle. Pick them up in the next needle. Knit another 4 ribs and again finish off the edges.

Knit 2 arms: 12 stitches in colour 1, 3 ribs, and a last rib in skin colour. Cut the thread at approximately 12 centimeters, tack the thread through the stitches using a needle.

The head

Knit 17 stitches and 12 needles tricot stitch in skin colour. Tack the thread through the stitches.


The hat

Cast on 25 stitches in colour 1 (tricot stitch). After 4 needles knit together the first and last 2 stitches of every "first" needle. Knit together the 3 remaining stitches.

Now you can put together the front and back of the body and sew on the arms.Baste the top of the head and close it. Fill up the head using a bit of un spun sheep wool and sew the head onto the body. You can also make a beard and hears using a bit of wool, just sew them on the head. Close the back of the hat and sew it on the head.
