• little pieces of birch-branches, approximately. 2 to 4 cm in diameter (the length depends on the diameter)
• a sharp knife

Begin with making the branch round at the top (see sketch).Then make the neck, allowing the head to get a bit smaller. Make sure the head doesn't become a v-pointed shape. Drawing a face is not necessary.
With some dolls it is possible to carve the bark so that it appears to be a coat(see sketch). To finish it off, cut back the branch to a total of 4 times the size of the head and polish the bare pieces of wood with beeswax.
